I am also the President of the 'I can't stand DW' fan club.
I don't know if anyone noticed or not, at the end of the Daytona 500, when the drivers were going into turn three, and it was getting clear that the winner was not coming from the Gibbs camp, our ol buddy DW got extra excited. Why is that? Does he not like Tony Stewart? Kurt Busch? Maybe he's just a big fan of Newman, or Penske.
I can understand an announcer getting excited when his brother or son is coming to the checkered, and I have been touched especially by Ned Jarretts call to the checkered for his son. I was even smiling when DW announced his brother Mikey to his first Daytona 500 victory.
I for one will admit I have really never been a fan of DW. It really stems from his early days, when he wouldn't/couldn't keep his mouth shut. Then came DW's win at Daytona. What did we get in victory lane? A poor imitation of the 'Icky Shuffle', made popular from Cincinnati's running back. You see, 'ol DW, (I don't use his name, because his initials stand for Dim-Wit) can't come up with anything original. From his Crystal Gayle refrences,......... "He done 'Blue Bayou'." , to his inane chatter about how "this cat has a fast hot-rod" and how he wants his spotter to tell him where the leaders at......."the leaders at the line ........now." If you want to know where the leader is, just look in your rear-view mirror DW, because in the last third of your driving career, thats where they could be found. You went from being a brash, hot shot that could back it up, to a spineless wimp who took up space on the track. Your best during that time was your commercials with your sponsor Western Auto, and look where that lead. No more Western Auto.
Now you land a spot as a commentator with the new boys on the block when it comes to broadcasting NASCAR. You swipe some goofy catch phrase from somebody, because we know by now, that you can't come up with anything on your own, and it sticks with people who don't know any better. You are a trickster, DW. You almost had me reeled back in before the 50th running of the Great American Race. Choking back the tears, remembering how great it once was. You almost had me. Then the ol DW that I know and despise shows himself. Last Lap. Turn three. Cheering against my driver. You didn't cheer for Newman. You didn't cheer for Penske. You cheered against Tony Stewart. Don't like his hair? Don't like him because he is what you once were? I really can't say that because Tony Stewart is a race car driver. I'm not sure if you really had the balls to do it.
So, once again, we have to suffer through your 'newest' catch phrase, although you have no idea where it came from, but you once heard someone say it, so you steal it, and use it on TV, "Hello Newman". Maybe thats why you didn't want to see Tony win. You haven't stolen anything to say about Tony.
I'm sure that this may ruffle a few feathers of the DW fans out there, but I don't care. If you don't want to see this type of thing said about your guy, then let him know that people are on to him. I myself am not going to stand for it. DW must be stopped!! Doesn't NASCAR and FOX know that little children are watching?
So, for the good of NASCAR nation, for the good of future mankind, please, please, join me in the 'I can't stand DW' fan club. Together, we can fight to get guys like this removed from the broadcast booth, and the general public.
